OMG originally started out when the trio, Hui Lian, Chin Wei and Anthony were still studying in National University of Singapore (NUS). The trio, all originating from diverse backgrounds and geographical locations of the tropical country Malaysia, collaborated in competitions and pitches, and often shared ideas and dreams beyond the daily pursuit of working life. While walking separate paths now — Hui Lian currently an Associate in FARM, Chin Wei a partner at Bio Architecture Formosana Taiwan, Anthony the Director of Playstory and mostly based in Malaysia, the trio would still come together to discuss design ideas or just chat over life pursuits.

In the spirit of OMG, a ubiquitous form of expression in our daily conversations that can connote positive or negative feelings, the group believes in seeking the fun in adversity, problems in the mundane. Originally meant to suggest the abbreviation of Overseas Malaysian Gang (OMG), the definition of OMG has since expanded - Open Minded Group, Outstandingly Marvellous Group, Only Meaningful Gang, One Mean Group, or short for Omega……

Hui Lian presently heads the OMG Atelier studio in Singapore as a registered Architecture firm since Sept 2021. She’s the Only Malaysian Girl in the firm. The studio delves into aspects of spatial design, encompassing Architecture, Interior, Exhibition, Installation – essentially the dimension that surrounds human experience.
